Social Worker Month: Morgan and Meg

Morgan:

What is your position and how long have you been with FCA?

I'm an Adoption Social Worker in the Post-Adoption support program and I've been working for FCA about a year and 6 months.

Why do you think FCA’s work is integral for the community?

FCA's work is integral for the community especially with our adoptive families. FCA is one of the largest private adoption agencies in Connecticut. We offer domestic and South Korean adoption services in addition to post-adoption support services, birth child/parent searching services, and birth parent counseling. Adoption continues to be an ever changing and challenging field. It is difficult to see adoption agencies closing, domestic adoption has moved to the internet, and international adoptions have dried up. FCA is one of the few agencies left that continue to provide guidance and support to families through the adoption process.

What about your work for FCA are you most proud of and why?

Adoption is a wonderful way to build a family, but many families need support in every step of this lifelong journey. When a family reaches out for support, it’s usually when they are in a state of crisis or have exhausted many resources that haven’t been the right fit for their family and as a result, they start to lose hope. The most rewarding part about our job is helping a family navigate through the storm and giving them a sense of hope. Families need someone in their corner to advocate on their behalf and they also need a cheerleader to encourage them to celebrate moments of success.
