Norwalk, Conn. – The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on lower income community members. Because many people have been out of work for several months, their families are now facing an additional challenge – food insecurity.
Family & Children’s Agency has seen the impact of this increased need in the clients we serve. Many clients have expressed a deep and growing concern about their ability to feed their families. Several families have confided in their FCA worker that the adults in the household split one meal to make sure the children have enough food. In an effort to address this growing issue, FCA has partnered with Food Rescue US – Fairfield County.
Thanks to support from 4-CT, Food Rescue US – Fairfield County has developed a Restaurant Meal Program and is coordinating with area restaurants to purchase meals which will be delivered to our neighbors in need. FCA’s first delivery included 200 barbecue chicken and macaroni and cheese dinners from Bobby Q’s. The next meal will be lomo saltado from Mochica. Food Rescue US – Fairfield County is continuing to onboard new restaurant partners for their Restaurant Meal Program and are providing more than 20,000 individual meals a month to food insecure individuals and families
