Norwalk, Conn. – During this time of social isolation to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Family & Children’s Agency continues to work with our clients remotely, including providing after-school educational support to children in our ASPIRE program and serving seniors with in-home essential care through our Home Care program. Recently, the two departments collaborated on a joint effort to connect these populations through a letter writing campaign.
Middle school students in ASPIRE crafted artwork and letters to uplift and connect with the seniors receiving care from FCA. The letters included handwritten statements of encouragement and love.
“You might not know me and I might not know you but I just wanted to tell you that no matter what there’s always someone that’s gonna be there for you and love you!” read one letter.
“Warmer, brighter days are coming so hang in there!” read another.
Creating this connecting is more than just a fun activity. It teaches the children compassion and gives them a creative outlet with purpose during this challenging time. For the seniors, receiving the messages in the mail gives them a point of contact during a time when social isolation is causing loneliness and helplessness.
“I just went down to get the mail and there’s this big envelope from FCA,” said one senior client. “It’s beautiful child’s artwork. Don’t be sad, be happy. It’s just really, really nice,” he said.
