Family & Children’s Agency (FCA) held their annual spring benefit IMAGINE, in May at The Loading Dock in Stamford. This year as an Agency first, two high school seniors from the Agency’s ASPIRE after-school program were awarded $10,000 scholarships and $1,000 book stipends, funded by board member Sharon Sullivan and her husband, Jeff Kindler.
The ASPIRE program focuses on youth development and promotes academic success for students grade 6 through 12. “Our board members are such an important part of the work we do in the community. We are truly grateful to the Sullivan-Kindler family for creating a scholarship opportunity for our ASPIRE students,” said Robert Cashel, FCA President & CEO. Recipients of the 2016 Sullivan-Kindler Scholarship, were nominated by FCA staff based on their engagement and involvement in the ASPIRE program and based on active college applications and/or acceptances. Students completed applications, essays and participated in several rounds of interviews.
The winners of this year’s scholarship, Maraejah Moore who will attend Western Connecticut University and Nijah Blue, who will attend The University of Bridgeport, were each awarded at the May 20th event. The event— which raised close to $300,000 to support FCA programs, was attended by nearly 300 guests including, Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling and US Senator Richard Blumenthal.
